As everyone knows, the best start to the day is with a good breakfast and what better way than with a bowl of our favourite cereal, which will keep us going until lunchtime.
However, over the years some of our old favourites have apparently disappeared for good. While there are still plenty of brands available and there's usually a big choice in the supermarkets, some of our old go-to cereals as kids have been discontinued, either due to low sales or for health reasons.
Here we round up some of the cereals we loved to tuck into before going to school that have sadly ben discontinued - be sure to let us know your favourite in the comments below.
Golden Grahams « Sean's Stories
If you were a child in the '80s and or '90s then you will no doubt remember Kellogg's Ricicles along with their chocolate counterpart Choco Ricicles.
The sugary cereal was always a popular family cereal until it was discontinued in 2017 due to its sugar levels, which let's be honest were off the charts.
Ricicles were basically Rice Krispies with a frosted sugar coating, which gave the children who ate them enough energy for the rest of the day.

The honey-flavoured sugar-coated cereal was to see a big change in 2014 when it changed its name to Honey Monster Puffs and also the original recipe to include less sugar and more honey. This change has led to many missing the original flavour of the puffs.
The cereal will always be synonymous with the TV advert featuring the larger-than-life Honey Monster and the '80s slogan of 'You'll go Monster-Mad for the Honey.'
Despite only coming out in the '80s Kellogg’s Start AKA Multi-Grain Start quickly became a favourite in our cereal bowls but was discontinued in 2018. Promoted as improving people’s performance in sports, the cereal was a favourite among many adults.
Discontinued Breakfast Cereals We Wish They'd Bring Back
Start contained wheat, corn and oats, and since it disappeared from the shelves, there have been petitions to bring it back. Some people on the petition stated that it was the best cereal ever made, which we totally agree with.
Back in the '90s, Kellogg's came up with the breakfast milkshake - okay they didn't really but that's what their Banana Bubbles was basically like.
Kellogg's Corn Pops were everywhere in the UK after being introduced in 1993, however by 2004 the 'You can't stop a corn popper popping more corn' flakes were discontinued in the UK but are still readily available as they can be imported from the USA.
Ewg's Food Scores
The popularity of Corn Pops even made it into the pop world when they sponsored Take That's 1993 Pops tour for a reported $1.5m.
Although there is another version of Froot Loops available in the US, the UK variation was originally introduced back in 2012 and differed greatly from its American counterpart.
Due to European legislation and the amount of sugar which can be sold, the two taste completely different, and while Kellogg's has released limited editions of Froot Loops, like the Unicorn variation, the original UK version is no longer available.
The Breakfast Cereals We Loved As Kids That Are No Longer On Supermarket Shelves
Another one that has been recently discontinued due to the amount of salt, sugar and fat included in the ingredients is Nestlé Golden Grahams. We may have loved them but Nestlé removed the brand from supermarket shelves in the UK in 2021.

Golden Grahams are made by General Mills and they are one of the best cereals ever created in our humble opinion.
Discontinued Cereals People Most Want To Make A Comeback
If you like graham crackers, you will be quite pleased with this cereal delight that takes the fun and flavor of graham crackers and creates a breakfast cereal for kids and adults alike!
Golden Grahams was originally presented by a brand known as Cereal Partners. Cereal Partners was always part of Nestle but eventually became General Mills. This cereal was created with little squares that are just right for bite-sized enjoyment.
The squares are actually made with whole wheat and corn, which is interesting when you consider the flavor of the squares. Those squares taste perfectly like brown sugar and a touch of honey. The flavor has always been comparable to cinnamon graham crackers as the closest comparison.
Golden Grahams Breakfast Cereal Treat Bars, S'mores, Snack Bars, 16 Ct
In fact, you might have seen tasty snack mixes that can be made at home to include Golden Grahams, mini marshmallows, and chocolate chips. It’s like a S’mores trail mix that is both fun and tasty but also far less messy than a regular S’more.
This cereal first came out to the world in 1976. It had several popular TV commercials in its early years and was sold heavily in the US, as well as both Canada and Europe. The brands are different in these countries and still held by Cereal Partners outside of the US and Canada.
General Mills is the brand that US and Canadian citizens will find the cereal in. Sadly, there are rumors that it was actually discontinued in Europe but we are unable to verify that for certain. There seems to be some history of it having been discontinued at some point but then it coming back into production so the details are just a little bit unclear.
Review: Pillsbury S'mores Golden Grahams Toaster Strudel
One of the cool things about this particular cereal is that it is made with 11 grams of whole grain per serving, which is pretty phenomenal compared to other “sugary” cereals. In addition, the brand also does not add any high fructose corn syrup or artificial colors and flavors either.
It’s a fairly nutritious cereal that could definitely be way worse in terms of unhealthy ingredients. We will talk a little bit more about nutrition later in this guide.
Golden Grahams found their way to TV almost as quickly as it was released. They had a TV commercial the same year. The commercial sported a fun jingle that was to the tune of a song named “Oh, Dem Golden Slippers”. That song was written by James Bland.

The company used that as inspiration for their commercial song. At some point, General Mills also produced cereal bars that were a spinoff of the Golden Grahams cereal. And we already discussed that homemade snack mix that is similar to S’mores but not as messy.
Golden Grahams first came out in 1976. It is part of a cereal company that was originally Cereal Partners outside of the United States. Here, we know that company as General Mills but the Cereal Partners company is owned by Nestle. Unfortunately, it seems as though Golden Graham was discontinued in the UK.
However, this cereal is still alive and well in the US and remains popular. It stands out because it is made with healthier ingredients than some cereals out there but still has delicious flavor and is really fun. You can make all sorts of different treats from this cereal.
Discontinued Breakfast Cereals
Golden Grahams was made to be almost like a cinnamon graham cracker but cut into tiny bite-sized square that you add your milk to and enjoy for breakfast.
Golden Grahams in the United States is still owned by General Mills and distributed by them in the United States and Canada.
While we don’t have any special stories to tell on this delightful cereal name, the name is fitting of what the cereal actually is.

If you look at the cereal, it’s little golden squares of flavor. That’s all it is. Those little golden squares were inspired by cinnamon graham crackers, as far as the taste goes. The name Golden Grahams fits with the golden cereal and the graham flavor that it offers you.
The most notable thing about this cereal is that they gave it great flour while using whole wheat and corn as the primary ingredients. It’s certainly not perfect but so many cereals don’t even try to incorporate these nutritional ingredients so it’s refreshing to see the foundation behind the cereal.
The cereal has plenty of vitamins and minerals to offer as well. The vitamins and minerals are pretty impressive thanks to their take on not using artificial additives to the cereal. Here are some of the vitamins that are found in the cereal.
